What are Dry Risers?

fire sprinkler head

A dry riser or dry descender is a non-automatic vertical pipe work and valve system that delivers water to each floor for fire fighting purposes. The system is called a dry riser as the pipe work system is not filled with water until the dry riser is called into action.

The dry riser has an inlet valve located on the outside of the building to allow the Fire Brigade to connect a water supply. Additionally, an outlet is installed on each level of the building to allow the Fire Brigade to connect a fire hose.

Triangle Fire Systems install dry risers to BS9990:2006.
